In order to vote in this election, you must be:

• A U.S. citizen;

• At least 18 years old on Election Day;

• A resident of Minnesota for 20 days;

• a Mankato Area Public Schools resident, and

• Finished with all parts of any felony sentence.

• You can vote while under guardianship unless a judge specifically has revoked your right to vote.

• You cannot vote if a court has ruled that you are legally incompetent.

Child care is an economic driver for communities in greater Minnesota, and child care shortages have a dramatic impact on families and the local economy. When families can’t find child care, they are unable to fully participate in the work-force and may eventually leave the area in pursuit of other opportunities. 

Early learning programs need to be high-quality to produce the positive impact intended. The benefits of investing in high-quality early childhood care and education by a school district can be sustained through a well-aligned, high-quality system. 

The tax impact is proportionally less for the $105 million bond because a portion of the new debt is replacing existing debt that is being paid off. The question 2, $15 million bond, is all new debt that is factored beyond the first bond.

The needs in our schools aren’t going away. The District would have to look carefully at our overall operating budget to determine how to address the needed projects to ensure the best educational experience for all of our students. Delaying the projects will likely mean they will be more expensive to complete in future years.

If the referendum is unsuccessful, the school district will continue to engage with the community about the safety and security needs of our schools, access to early childhood learning, and the future of the West High School site. This engagement will help shape the size and scope of the next bond referendum, likely to be more expensive in future years.

Our athletic leadership team has begun discussion about how events will be hosted. It is likely one stadium will be built while the other remains intact, and then the second will be reconstructed. No decision has been made on which stadium will be first. Options on where and how to host events includes:

1. Share a field as much as possible
2. Work with MSU
3. Work with Gustavus
4. Work with other area high schools if absolutely necessary
