MAPS Ambassador Program
The MAPS Ambassador Program is a five-session behind-the-scenes look at Mankato Area Public School. This program is open to residents in the MAPS boundaries who would like to learn more about our schools and what we do. Topics include finances, operations, teaching and learning, and student services.
-
We ask that ambassadors commit to the five sessions. Our staff and students help prepare for these experiences, and it is important that they have the chance to share their hard work with you.
-
All experiences are during the school day and are 2 hours.
-
Ambassadors are encouraged to become active attendees of district events to get to know our community of students, staff, and families. They will receive passes/tickets to a few extracurricular events, plays, or athletic games throughout the year.
-
Ambassadors are guests in our buildings and our classrooms. They are required to follow all safety protocols. They cannot take photos of students or staff during their visit..
Community members who are interested in joining the program must complete an application which closes on September 30th.
Session Descriptions
Selection
MAPS Ambassador classes are small by design to allow for quality interaction and discussions, and candidates must apply and be selected to participate. For each class, we choose a variety of community leaders and parent representatives. Strong candidates are active in the community, well respected by others, a supporter of public education, and in a position to be a positive, helpful advocate and communicator for MAPS.
Logistics
The MAPS Ambassadors' time commitment is two hours each month for 5 months. Classes meet from either 8:30-10:30 am or 10 am - 12 on one Thursday of the month. Class members who are accepted into MAPS Ambassadors will be given a schedule and asked to fully commit their attendance to the program. Class sessions take place in a variety of locations throughout the district and involve listening, reading, discussing, and touring buildings.
Applications for the Class of 2025 will open in the fall of 2024 and the application can be found here at that time.
