Resident Registration

If you are new to Mankato Area Public Schools (resident family or approved open-enrolled family), you may be asking yourself what to do next. Below we've compiled a list of helpful resources for parents/guardians of new students, whether currently in kindergarten, elementary school, middle school, or high school.

2020 KINDERGARTEN INFORMATION: UPCOMING REGISTRATION DATES WILL OPEN JANUARY 13TH - FEBRUARY 14TH, 2020.  A PACKET OF INFORMATION WILL BE SENT OUT THE FIRST WEEK OF JANUARY TO ALL FAMILIES WITH KINDERGARTEN ELIGIBLE STUDENTS.

REGISTRATION STEPS FOR ALL GRADES

New K-12 students who move into the district during the year should complete the online K-12 New Student Registration by clicking the link below. Please review all of the information listed below prior to filling out the online registration. 

  1. Check our Attendance Areas to see where your children will go to school and if the address is eligible for busing 
  2. Fill out the online K-12 New Student Registration by clicking the link below. Make sure to save the application number you receive at the beginning of registration.
  3. Complete the following registration forms and email to: centralregistration@isd77.org or bring them to the Central Registration Office (address listed below).
    • Copy of official state issued birth certificate, passport, or I-94 form for each child registering for school
    • Proof of address (a utility bill or a home lease agreement, for example)
    • If applicable, provide Special Education IEP and summary evaluation report 
    • Immunization record (one for each child)
    • Release of Records (one for each child) - Mankato Area Public Schools will request a transfer of records from the previous school attended. 
    • Food Service Application (current year 19-20, must be completed annually)
  4. Visit Central Registration Office to:
    • Complete the Transportation form
    • Receive Infinite Campus Parent Portal Access Key so you can monitor your student's attendance, grades and meal account information (must bring ID and confirmation of uploaded registration)

I've Enrolled My Child, Now What?

Now that your child is enrolled in Mankato Area Public Schools, you will want to:

  • Watch for emails from the school and district regarding activities and events.
  • Review the student handbook for your student's school. Handbooks are posted on each school's webpage.
  • Get involved with the Parent Teacher Council at your child’s school. 
  • Talk to your child's teacher or your school principal if you need more information.

We want your experience with Mankato Area Public Schools to be a positive one. Thank you for partnering with us to help your child reach his or her maximum potential.

Grade Specific Information

Kindergarten

REGISTRATION TIMELINE

UPCOMING REGISTRATION DATES WILL OPEN JANUARY 13TH - FEBRUARY 14TH, 2020.  A PACKET OF INFORMATION WILL BE SENT OUT THE FIRST WEEK OF JANUARY TO ALL FAMILIES WITH KINDERGARTEN ELIGIBLE STUDENTS.

  • In Minnesota, children are eligible to attend kindergarten when they are five-years-old on or before September 1 of the calendar year that school starts. View MN Statutes section 120A.20.
  • School attendance is determined by your address. View Attendance Boundaries to learn more.
  • All incoming kindergartners are required to complete Early Childhood Screening, or share results of the Early Childhood Screening if not completed at The Family Learning Center. Call Central Registration to schedule your screening.
  • Families must register all children entering Kindergarten, even if other siblings are currently enrolled.  Please read the current Kindergarten Letter and Kindergarten Registration Checklist for 19-20 Kindergarten Registration.  
  • The state deadline for open enrollment applications is January 15.  Applications turned in after January 15th, will be accepted as space allows. 
  • Each elementary school hosts Kindergarten Roundup in the spring time for all incoming Kindergarten students. Please watch for additional communication from your area school.  
  • Families should review:

Elementary (Grades K-5)

  • Elementary Parent/Student Handbooks are available on each school website.
  • Additional forms may be needed at individual school buildings. Please inquire accordingly.
  • Backpack Food Program - provides a weekend's worth of healthy, well-balanced meals in small bags. The bags are given to the students' teachers every Thursday to be discreetly placed into the child's backpack on Friday.
  • Families should review:

Middle School (Grades 6-8)

  • The school you registered for will contact you to set up an appointment with a school counselor to discuss topics including academic schedules.
  • Parent/Student Handbooks are available on each school website.
  • Additional forms may be needed at individual school buildings. Please inquire accordingly.
  • 1:1 Chromebook Program and Insurance - Agreement for the 1:1 program and optional insurance. Additional Information
