Resident Registration

If you are new to Mankato Area Public Schools (resident family or approved open-enrolled family), you may be asking yourself what to do next. Below we've compiled a list of helpful resources for parents/guardians of new students, whether currently in kindergarten, elementary school, middle school, or high school.

REGISTRATION STEPS FOR ALL GRADES

Resident families need to follow these steps to enroll. Families will enroll at the Central Registration Office:

  1. Check our Attendance Areas to see where your children will go to school.
  2. Bring official state issued birth certificate, passport, or I-94 form for each child registering for school
  3. Bring current immunization record  
  4. Bring proof of address (a utility bill or a home lease agreement, for example)
  5. Bring student records, transcript, Special Education IEP and summary evaluation report
  6. Complete the following registration forms:

At the time of registration you will be given information on how to set up your Infinite Campus Parent Portal account. 

Grade Specific Information

Kindergarten

REGISTRATION TIMELINE

  • In Minnesota, children are eligible to attend kindergarten when they are five-years-old on or before September 1 of the calendar year that school starts. View MN Statutes section 120A.20.
  • School attendance is determined by your address. View Attendance Boundaries to learn more.
  • All incoming kindergartners are required to complete Early Childhood Screening, or share results of the Early Childhood Screening if not completed by ISD77. Call Central Registration to schedule your screening.
  • Families must register all children entering Kindergarten, even if other siblings are currently enrolled. The online registration will be open January 14 - February 15, 2019.  Please read the current Kindergarten Letter and Kindergarten Registration Checklist for 19-20 Kindergarten Registration.  
  • The state deadline for open enrollment applications is January 15. Late applications will be accepted as space allows. 
  • Our elementary schools host Kindergarten Roundup in the spring for all incoming Kindergarten students. Please watch for additional communication from your area school.  Roundup is April 11, 2019.
  • Families should review:

Elementary (Grades K-5)

  • Elementary Parent/Student Handbooks are available on each school website.
  • Additional forms may be needed at individual school buildings. Please inquire accordingly.
  • Backpack Food Program - provides a weekend's worth of healthy, well-balanced meals in small bags. The bags are given to the students' teachers every Thursday to be discreetly placed into the child's backpack on Friday.
  • Families should review:

Middle School (Grades 6-8)

  • The school you registered for will contact you to set up an appointment with a school counselor to discuss topics including academic schedules.
  • Parent/Student Handbooks are available on each school website.
  • Additional forms may be needed at individual school buildings. Please inquire accordingly.
  • 1:1 Chromebook Program and Insurance - Agreement for the 1:1 program and optional insurance. Additional Information
