The Educare Foundation is pleased to announce $57,124 in Educator Initiative grant awards to support innovative learning across Mankato Area Public Schools. Grants will be awarded to educators at the annual Educare Benefit on May 17, 2019 at Chankaska Creek Ranch & Winery. Tickets for the event can be purchased online at www.educarefoundation.org/spring-benefit.  

Grant awards for the 2019-20 school year include:

  • Telepresence Robots by OhmniLabs for all K-12 schools, $10,775
    • The robots provide a unique communication experience through a combination of video cameras, video screens, and remote physical operation.
  • STEM Kits & Buddies for Jefferson Elementary, $11,599
    • The STEM kits provide hands-on examples, puzzles, and challenges related to core STEM subjects.
  • Mariachi Ensemble for East High School - $6,607
    • East High School would like to add depth to its musical ensembles by developing a mariachi ensemble.
  • Multi-Process Welders for East and West High Schools, $11,529
    • Mankato Area Public Schools see more than 300 students taking welding courses, including students involved in Welding Internship and Manufacturing Apprenticeship Programs.
  • Construction Pathway Expansion for Central, East and West High Schools, $16,614
    • The high schools are requesting funds to expand its construction trades program to purchase equipment that is outdated or non-existent in the program.

Educare also provides support through the Ed Waltman Mini Grants Program during the school year. The Foundation distributes up to $24,000 annually in mini grants, and with the Educator Initiative Grants awarded, Educare has funded more than $1.2 million in grants since its inception in 1995!

A non-profit public entity, the Educare Foundation provides financial support to Mankato Area Public Schools beyond the normal operating budget. Educare supports programs and activities that enhance educational opportunities for all students and encourages teachers to explore new ways of learning and provides a vital link between the community and the classroom. Attend "A Christmas Carol" musical performance hosted by Mankato Area Public Schools

Attend a musical performance of "A Christmas Carol" by Charles Dickens, adapted by Deborah Pick and performed by area youth and tour directors Jeremy James Day and Lauren Longyear at the Mankato Area Public Schools' East High School auditorium, 2600 Hoffman Road:

 

  • 7 p.m., Friday, November 22
  • 1 p.m., Saturday, November 23 

This event is hosted by Mankato Area Public Schools' Community Education and Recreation Department and performed by Prairie Fire Children's Theatre Company. Tickets will be available at the door one hour before the show and are $4 for adults ages 17 and older, $2 for youth ages four to 16 and at no cost for children ages three and under. The performance will last approximately one hour. 

 

Use complimentary "VIP Gold Card" to experience Mankato Area Public Schools’ concerts and events at no cost. The card is available exclusively for seniors (age 62 plus) who live within school district #77. To obtain a “VIP Gold Card,” simply contact Mankato Area Public Schools’ central office at 507-387-1868; or the activity offices at East High School 507-207-3628, or West High School 507-207-3921.

Attend "Willy Wonka" at Mankato Area Public Schools' West High School

Attend a performance of "Willy Wonka" a play adaptation by Leslie Bricusse and Timothy Allen McDonald, based on "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory" by Roald Dahl at Mankato Area Public Schools' West High School, 1351 South Riverfront Drive.

Performances:

  • 7 p.m., Thursday, November 14
  • 7 p.m., Friday, November 15
  • 2 p.m. matinee, Saturday, November 16
  • 7 p.m., Saturday, November 16

Tickets cost $12 for adults and $10 for students. Tickets are available one hour prior to performance. Anyone age 62 plus who lives within school district #77 can attend at no cost by showing their VIP Gold card. Attend a performance of Jane's Austen's "Pride and Prejudice," a play adaptation by Jon Jory, at Mankato Area Public Schools' East High School, 2600 Hoffman Road.

Help ensure student safety: Stop for school buses

According to the Minnesota State Patrol:
Stop:

  • at least 20 feet from a school bus displaying red flashing lights.
  • when school bus stop arm is extended stop at least 20 feet away from the bus.
  • when school bus displays red flashing lights because it indicates students are entering or exiting the bus.
  • for pedestrians.

Be alert for:

  • children even if school bus is on opposite side of a separated roadway, such as a median.
  • school crossing patrols.
  • when school bus displays amber colored lights it signals that the bus is preparing to stop to pick up or drop off students.

Speeds are lowered within school zones for student safety. Student bus safety is a collaborative effort between Mankato Area Public Schools, City of Mankato Public Safety, Minnesota State Highway Patrol, Blue Earth County Sheriff's Department and law enforcement from the cities of Eagle Lake, North Mankato and Madison Lake, Yaeger Bus Service and Palmer Bus Company. 

Mankato Area Public Schools' West High School announces 2019 homecoming queen candidates

Mankato Area Public Schools' West High School's homecoming coronation is 11 a.m., Friday (October 11) in the West High School gymnasium, 1351 South Riverfront Drive. The public is welcome to attend.
