According to the U.S. Department of Agriculture's National School Lunch Program, school nutrition services are required to adhere to specific federal regulations in accommodating special diets for students enrolled at Mankato Area Public Schools.

Food Allergies
In the case of a milk allergy, we offer a nutritionally equivalent replacement of soy milk.
Medically Documented Celiac Disease or Gluten Intolerance
If your child has celiac disease or gluten intolerance and we have received the above Special Diet Statement for your child with a physician's signature, your child is able to receive gluten free foods. Our gluten free menu is planned each month to resemble the normal lunch menu as closely as possible.
Disabilities or Medical Conditions
Participant has a disability or medical condition that requires a special meal or dietary accommodation.
Lactose Intolerance
In cases of lactose intolerance, we offer a nutritionally equivalent replacement of lactose-free milk. Juice is not an acceptable substitute.

Please note: Each special dietary request must be supported by a statement, which explains the food substitution that is requested. It must be signed by a recognized medical authority.
The medical statement must include:
✔ an identification of the medical or other special dietary condition which restricts the child's diet;
✔ the food or foods to be omitted from the child's diet; and
✔ the food or choice of foods to be substituted.
