Roosevelt Elementary School student council sponsors community compost event on Earth Day
In celebration of Earth Day--Friday, April 21--from 2 p.m. to 5:30 p.m., at 300 West Sixth Street (east lawn), Mankato Area Public Schools' Roosevelt Elementary School student council will offer compost at $3.50 per 20 pound bag.  Benefits of using compost for planting, potting soil and as mulch include:
  • plants grow bigger and stronger
  • absorbs water
  • keeps soil from eroding
  • reduces greenhouse gasses
  • natural, sustainable and reduces need for pesticides and fertilizers
West High YES! student organization has been working with Roosevelt Elementary School students on lunchroom recycling opportunities and benefits and sustainability practices in general.

Roosevelt Elementary School students are partnering with Mankato Zero Waste and West High School YES! organization to make this environmental-friendly community offering possible.
