Smart Snacks

The U.S Department of Agriculture (USDA) requires that starting this school year (2014-15), all foods sold at school during the school day must meet nutrition standards. The Smart Snacks in School regulation applies to foods sold a la carte, in the school store, and vending machines. These standards aim to promote healthier eating at school using research-based nutrition guidelines.

Birthdays, Holidays and other Classroom Celebrations

Mankato Area Public Schools is making an effort to promote healthy behaviors among our children and adolescents by making our cafeterias, school stores, fundraisers and vending machines healthier. We have swapped the high-fat, -sugar, and -sodium items out for whole grains, low-fat, reduced sugar and nutrient-dense foods. In order to provide a consistent message throughout our district we are asking that classrooms celebrate students' birthdays, holidays or other classroom celebrations without food.
