| Elementary school attendance boundary plan approved The Mankato Area Public School Board has approved new elementary school attendance boundaries that will begin in the 2010-11 school year. Rosa Parks Elementary School will be opening next fall, and new attendance boundaries will provide adequate space for the delivery of educational services to Mankato Area Public Schools’ students. Students entering fifth grade that are affected by the change will have the option to remain at their current elementary school. Attendance exceptions will continue to be accepted. | Mankato Area Public Schools partnership with Greater Mankato Growth receives state recognition Greater Mankato Growth (GMG) has received the Creative Capital: Education and Lifelong Learning Award, for their work in forming collaborations with education, government and non-profits to develop, attract and retain the talented workforce important to the community’s continued vitality. | Central Freedom School recipient of $5,000 grant Mankato Area Public Schools' Central Freedom School is receiving a grant in the amount of $5,000 from the Mankato Clinic Foundation. The funds will go toward operating costs of the Central Freedom School--a year-round high school program serving referred students who are in recovery from chemical dependency. "Through generous gifts like this, Mankato Area Public School’s can continue to offer the Freedom School as an option for students who are recovering from chemical dependency. Freedom School students deserve this opportunity and we are grateful for the support," said Central Freedom School Principal Steve Byrne. | |||

| Early childhood screening benefits young children; schedule an appointment today Parents/guardians who are planning to send their pre-school aged children to Mankato Area Public Schools’ must sign up for early childhood screening under Minnesota State law. While early childhood screening is not a kindergarten entrance test, it benefits children in a number of ways. The screening determines how a child is doing, promotes healthy development, connects families to resources and identifies children who may need further health assessments or more developmental evaluations. During screening a child’s vision, hearing, growth and skills will be checked. In addition, there will be an immunization review. The earlier the screening is scheduled, the better because early development is critical. The targeted age for screening is three; it must be completed before kindergarten. More Information | |||
